Does Boron Increase Free Testosterone (Actual Proof)

In the world of fitness and bodybuilding, the search for supplements that can naturally enhance performance is never-ending. One such supplement that has garnered attention recently is boron, a trace mineral found in certain foods and the environment. The question we’re tackling today is, does boron increase free testosterone?

I actually have some REAL PROOF that it does indeed work.  Although this worked for me, I may not work for others.  Based on some really good studies out there and my own experiment, it is safe to safe in general it works very well.

What is Boron and Its Functions?

Boron is a trace mineral that our bodies need in small amounts. It’s naturally found in the environment and in foods like nuts, fruit, and legumes. Research suggests that boron plays a vital role in bone health, brain function, and improving the body’s ability to heal wounds. It’s also indicated that boron may affect the way our bodies handle other minerals and nutrients such as magnesium and vitamin D.

How Does Boron Affect Testosterone Levels?

The relationship between boron and testosterone has become a hot topic, especially among athletes and those seeking natural ways to boost their testosterone levels. Preliminary studies suggest that boron might increase the body’s natural production of testosterone. It’s believed that boron does this by inhibiting the protein sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). When SHBG levels are reduced, the amount of free testosterone (testosterone not bound to proteins) increases.

How Did Boron Increase My Free Testosterone Levels

I did my blood work at the exact same Lab before and after the self-experiment. Day 1: I went into the lab on Saturday at 9 am.  Having fasted and not eaten anything since 9 pm the night before. I wanted the results to be as accurate as possible.

Then I went into the same lab exactly 3 weeks later after taking 9mg of Boron daily. My results were pretty amazing in such a short period of time.   To give you a range of how they measure Free Testosterone in the country I live in.  The general range is 6.1 to 30.3 pg/ml.

Day 1 I was extremely low and the results showed me at 2.5.  This was not something I wanted to see, but I’m almost 43 so I can kind of see it making sense.

Day 21 after three weeks on Boron I tested again and I was at 15.8…Boom!   This put me right in the middle of the normal Free Testosterone ranges.

Benefits of Increased Free Testosterone

Having more free testosterone in the body can come with several benefits, particularly for those involved in physical fitness. Testosterone is associated with muscle growth, improved strength, faster recovery from workouts, increased energy levels, and enhanced mood. An increase in free testosterone could potentially provide these benefits more significantly.

  1. Free Testosterone fosters muscle growth and strength, enabling individuals to build lean muscle mass and perform better in physical activities.
  2. Secondly, it boosts mental agility. Numerous studies have suggested a correlation between free testosterone and improved cognitive function, leading to better concentration, problem-solving abilities, and memory recall.
  3. Lastly, enhanced levels of free testosterone can promote bone health. It aids in the increase of bone density, which can result in stronger, healthier bones and potentially reduce the risk of osteoporosis in the long run. These diverse advantages underline the significant role free testosterone plays in maintaining an individual’s overall health.

What Does the Science Say about Boron and Testosterone?

Several studies have explored the impact of boron on testosterone. A study conducted in 2011 showed that men who took a daily boron supplement for a week significantly increased their free testosterone levels. However, the body of research on this topic is still relatively small. More comprehensive studies are needed to confirm these findings and fully understand the relationship between boron and testosterone.

Some other Studies related to Boron

A piece of research published in the Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology back in 2011 documented a substantial increase in free testosterone among subjects who took a 10mg boron supplement daily for a week. This was the same study as I previously mentioned.

Flash forward to 2015, a study spotlighted in the European Journal of Applied Physiology suggested that male bodybuilders supplementing with boron experienced higher free testosterone levels and a reduction in sex hormone-binding globulin, or SHBG, enhancing the bioavailability of testosterone.

More recently, a 2020 study featured in Nutrition Research found that a daily 6mg boron supplement over two months significantly ramped up free testosterone levels in healthy males, without any adverse effects. This body of research suggests that boron could play a key role in male hormonal health.

How to Supplement with Boron?

If you’re considering a Boron supplement, it’s generally suggested to not exceed a daily intake of 20 milligrams. A typical dosage can range from 3 to 6 milligrams per day, depending on your nutritional needs. Some experts recommend doing 3 weeks on and 1 week off. That is exactly what I do.

I take mine in pill form and usually with Breakfast.

But as always, you should consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen. I’ve mentioned many times that not all bodies are the same and individual requirements may vary.

Boron, Testosterone, and You

In conclusion, preliminary research an my own case study suggest that boron may indeed increase free testosterone levels. However, remember that individual responses to supplements can vary, and it’s crucial to balance expectations with reality. While boron may offer a natural method to boost testosterone, it’s just one piece of the health and wellness puzzle. A balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate rest remain essential for optimal testosterone levels and overall well-being.

The exploration of boron and its potential effects on testosterone levels is an exciting area of research. We look forward to future studies that provide a deeper understanding of this relationship and other health benefits that boron may offer.

Remember, always consult your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen. Stay tuned for more on this and other health and wellness topics.
